There has been a lot of learning happening this past month at the PPS Library! Along with sharing stories, checking out good books to read, and talking about our reading, we have also been introduced to...
Students in K-2 were presented with design challenges.
K-1 Design Challenge: Bridge Building
Using wood blocks for supports, can you make a "paper" bridge to hold weight?
2nd Grade Group Design Challenge: Cantilever Spans
Using only paint stirrers and 3/4 " washers, build the longest cantilever span you can. You can use as many washers and stirrers as you want!
Hour of Code!
December 5th-9th was Computer Science Education Week. Students around the world participated in the Hour of Code. Students at PPS Library learned the program called Lightbot. Kindergarten students learned the commands and how to use them to get the robot to follow the path and light all the blue tiles. First and second grade students moved to the next level that involved finding the patterns in the command code. Using the P1 command to represent the pattern they discovered, enabled them to complete their coding mission. Visit our web site under the "links" tab to access Lightbot. You can also go to this tab to access all the "Hour of Code" activities that are a part of this program. Be sure to check off the box "grades 2-5" in the tab on the left.
Vermont's 2016-2017 Red Clover Book Program!
Why are there red balloons hanging in the library? Where did Pearson find these ten new books?
We are once again excited to share this year's ten Vermont Children's Choice Red Clover books during library classes. At the end of March, students will get to vote for their favorite book in real voting booths!
Stop by and visit our space if you are in the building!
